Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion diesel to be replaced by petrol TSI

volkswagen polo 2014The Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion diesel is to be replaced in the UK by a new petrol-powered Polo BlueMotion TSI, promising 68.9mpg and 94g/km CO2.

This will feature a new turbocharged three-cylinder 1.0-litre engine that produces 90PS.

This change is part of a mid-life refresh for the Polo, which will see a range of new EU6-compliant engines offering fuel efficiency improvements of up to 21 per cent over the old units.

There are two 1.0-litre units, with 60 or 75PS, and two 1.2-litre four-cylinder TSI engines with 90 or 110 PS.

As before, a 1.4-litre TSI engine with cylinder deactivation (ACT) will be available, this time with power increased by 10 PS to 150 PS. A range-topping Polo GTI with increased power will be available next year.

You’ll still be able to buy a diesel Polo, with a choice of two new three-cylinder 1.4-litre TDI engines (previously these were 1.2 and 1.6-litres), with 75 and 90 PS.

A range of advanced technology features will also be available, as well as a new optional Sport Select suspension system, using electronically controlled dampers to switch between two suspension settings.

Orders open for the new Polo in the UK in April, with first deliveries expected in late July.
