Volkswagen has shown a concept car at the Detroit Motor Show that has more than a hint of Audi TT but emits just 113 g/km of CO2 and returns 65 mpg.
It has a four-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine together with an ‘Eco’ mode function can be engaged to activate an automatic Stop-Start system and braking energy regeneration.
Although there are similarities with the TT shape, one big difference is the position of the engine; the Concept BlueSport is mid-engined, and rear-wheel drive.
Power from the 180 PS engine is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox resulting in the Concept BlueSport accelerating from standstill to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph.
The two-seat roadster has a lightweight chassis structure that helps with economy and handling. With short front and rear overhangs and 19-inch alloy wheels Volkswagen says the Concept BlueSport marks an evolution of Volkswagen design.
Unfortunately the Concept BlueSport is a design study with no immediate plans for production.
