BMW 316d ES

You can now buy a BMW 3 Series saloon which only costs £35 a year to tax, and manages 62.8mpg with emissions of just 118g/km CO2.

However despite being the most fuel efficient BMW 3 Series ever, the 316d ES Saloon can still reach 125mph, and get to 62mph in 10.9 seconds. Add rear-wheel drive handling and BMW quality, and you get one of the most economical yet enjoyable saloons available.

Thanks to EfficientDynamics mated with the 116hp 1,995cc four-cylinder diesel engine and six-speed manual gearbox, this results in a possible range in excess of 800 miles between fill-ups.

As well as the band C Vehicle Excise Duty, the BMW 316d has just a 13 per cent benefit-in-kind rating. This means that a 40 per cent tax bracket business user pays just £1,208 a year in tax, and a person in the 25 per cent bracket only pays £755.

The BMW 316d ES Saloon comes as standard with the same specification as the BMW 318d ES Saloon. This specification includes air-conditioning, multi-function leather steering wheel, front and rear ISOFIX child seat attachments, front foglights and the complete suite of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies as standard.

The new BMW 316d Saloon goes on sale in September priced at £23,330.

Last year the BMW 118d was named as the World Green Car of the Year, and the BMW Group was named the world’s most sustainable car manufacturer in the recently announced Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the fourth year in succession.
