BMW wins Energy Saving Trust Fleet AwardNovember 27, 2009
BMW Group has won the title of Industry Supplier at the Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero Awards for the second year running, in recognition of how it has helped businesses to make their fleets more efficient, sustainable and reduce their carbon emissions.
The aim of the awards is to highlight best practice in fleet management and they’re backed by The Guardian, the Department for Transport’s Act on CO2 campaign and the Confederation of British Industry. The awards publicly recognise the companies and individuals that have had the biggest effect on reducing emissions over the past year.
To win the Industry Supplier Awards in 2008 and 2009, BMW had to prove how EfficientDynamics, its energy-saving technology provides actual carbon and fuel savings, as well as backing this up with third party verifications and testimonials from fleets.
Vehicles such as the recently announced BMW 320d EfficientDynamics, with just 109g/km of CO2, as well as 190 models with emission below 160g/km of CO2 were central to the submission. Also, EfficientDynamics-equipped vehicles BMWs sold in the UK during 2008 have been responsible for an approximate 54,000 tonne reduction in CO2 emissions, compared to pre-EfficientDynamics cars.
In winning the Industry Supplier Award for 2009 Stephen Chater, BMW Group Corporate Operations Manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award and that the Energy Saving Trust has recognised our commitment to reducing emissions in business fleets. This award builds on the latest Dow Jones Sustainability Index naming BMW the ‘Most sustainable car company in the world’, recognising BMW’s commitment to sustainability.”
“So far this year we have supplied more than 36,000 BMWs and 8,000 MINIs to the fleet industry, all of which have been fitted with EfficientDynamics and MINIMALISM emissions-reducing technology, illustrating our commitment to working with the industry and bodies such as the Energy Savings Trust to minimise the environmental impact of business motoring.”
Philip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust, said: “Congratulations to BMW for winning the Energy Saving Trust Fleet Hero Award again for Industry Supplier. The Fleet Hero Awards highlights those who have not only taken steps to help the environment but also to save money and resources. This is a great example for others to follow.”
So far in 2009, BMW Group has won over 20 awards from the fleet sector, with EfficientDynamics technologies playing a major factor in the awarding of all of them. Some notable accolades include Fleet News and Business Car awards, Fleet World honours, Green Fleet awards as well as the FN50 Reliability Survey 2009 Most Reliable Manufacturer.
