Alfa Romeo has not made many appearances on Green-Car-Guide, but, just like buses, hot on the heels of the new MultiAir petrol engine for the Alfa Mito comes news of the MultiJet II diesel, capable of 65.7mpg and emissions of 112g/km CO2.
The MultiJet II diesel engine comes in the form of the Alfa MiTo 1.3 JTDM-2, available in three trim levels: Turismo, Lusso and Veloce.
Introduced in 2003, MultiJet was a development of UniJet which debuted on the Alfa 156 JTD in 1997. It improved the thermodynamic efficiency of the engine by introducing five injections during the same combustion cycle. Developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT), MultiJet II is the next generation of MultiJet technology.
The new MultiJet II system can now manage eight injections per cycle. As well as managing 65.7mpg and emissions of 112g/km CO2, together with complying with Euro 5 emissions legislation, in 95bhp form the MiTo 1.3 has a 0-62mph acceleration time of 11.6 seconds, a top speed of 112mph, and torque delivery at low RPM can be up to 25 per cent greater.
It also comes with Start&Stop and a Diesel Particulate Filter.
Prices start from £13,995 for the Turismo, rising to £15,785 for the Veloce.
