The Aston Martin Cygnet luxury city car will go into production in 2011.
Yes, this is a Toyota iQ with an Aston face and badge. Each one will be hand-finished at the firm’s Gaydon HQ, with an Aston interior replacing the Toyota fittings.
Aston Martin is expecting that its range of performance cars will be outlawed from cities at some stage, and so the Cygnet is designed to provide Aston drivers with a car that is acceptable in urban areas and that still has some luxury trimmings.
And of course the car will help to lower the average CO2 emissions of the Aston range. The Cygnet is still likely to retain the Toyota engine – the 1.33-litre, four-cylinder version.
Further details on the Cygnet including pricing and specification will be announced later this year. However you can expect that it won’t be cheap – probably around £30,000, or three times the cost of an iQ. Phew.
