The new Audi A1 1.4 TFSI 185PS combines turbocharging and supercharging to result in 0-62 mph in 6.9 seconds along with 47.9 mpg.
This equates to 139 g/km CO2, which is impressive for a car that achieves 250 Nm torque and a top speed of 141 mph.
The 1.4-litre direct injection petrol engine combines a supercharger that works from 1,500 rpm, then disengages at around 2,400 rpm, to be followed from around 3,500 rpm by a boost from the turbocharger.
As the Audi A1 supercharger takes care of low-range boost, a larger and more efficient turbocharger has been used.
The A1 1.4 TFSI 185PS comes with S tronic seven-speed twin-clutch transmission and S line specification as standard.
The S tronic transmission performs gearshifts in just a few hundredths of a second, and its tall seventh gear also reduces fuel consumption.
This A1 comes with the latest ESP stabilisation programme with electronic axle differential lock, which initiates very brief braking of the inside front wheel when its sensors detect an impending loss of traction during fast cornering.
The S line specification includes features such as an exclusive S line exterior treatment, 17-inch alloy wheels and part leather-upholstered sports seats.
This is in addition to the Sport equipment level which already includes remote central locking, air conditioning, electric front windows and mirrors, Bluetooth mobile phone preparation, Driver’s Information System and a six-speaker single CD audio system with auxiliary iPod connection linked to a 6.5-inch retractable display.
The A1 1.4 TFSI 185PS is available to order now, priced from £20,705.
