The first speakers for the LowCVP’s 2013 annual conference – to be held on Thursday 11 July in Central London – have been announced and include leading representatives of the European Commission, Department for Transport and the Commitee on Climate Change.
Held in association with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) the event will focus around the theme ‘Beyond the Tailpipe’ which was introduced at the LowCVP’s Tenth Anniversary event held in January.
Speakers already confirmed for the event include David Kennedy, Chief Executive of the Committee on Climate Change; Michael Hurwitz, Director Greener Transport and International; DfT and Ian Hodgson of DG-CLIMA, the EC’s Climate Action Directorate.
With growing numbers of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles expected to be on the road in the future, and with a range of other potential alternative fuels available, greenhouse gas emissions arising from road transport will occur ‘beyond the tailpipe’ at different stages in the energy and product life cycles. Policymakers will need to get to grips with the implications of these changes in the context of plans and targets to mitigate climate change.
The LowCVP’s 2013 annual conference aims to explore this policy landscape and set out some stepping stones on the road to this goal. The event will focus on the technical implications of the move to a more holistic view of emissions analysis and also look at what will need to be done to engage consumers in the process.
