Audi is introducing the term ‘ultra’ to denote its most efficient models, and this new trend begins with the 64.2mpg Audi A6 ultra.
The A6 ultra has a new 2.0-litre diesel engine that complies with forthcoming EU6 emissions regulations and is also more powerful than the previous unit, increasing from 177PS to 190PS.
The engine comes with a new, more efficient seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission, which replaces the eight-speed multitronic CVT in four-cylinder models. Manual transmission versions will also become available later in 2014.
Benefit-in-kind liability for drivers of the A6 2.0 TDI with the new 190PS ultra engine and new S tronic transmission falls from 21 per cent in the outgoing version to 17 per cent.
The A6 ultra – which is up to 14 per cent more efficient than the previous model, which returned 56.5mpg – is available as a Saloon and Avant (which achieves up to 61.4mpg with 119g/km CO2). It can be specified as an SE, S line or Black Edition, and is available to order now priced from £32,515.
Later this year the new A6 2.0 TDI ultra will be followed in the UK by ultra versions of the A4, A5 Coupé and A5 Sportback with CO2 emissions as low as 104g/km.
