The all-new, all-electric IONIQ 5 – the first model in Hyundai’s IONIQ battery electric vehicle brand – will offer a range of up to 300 miles and it can gain 62 miles of charge in 5 minutes – with the right charger.
The IONIQ 5 will have two battery options, 58 kWh or 72.6 kWh, and will come with rear or all-wheel drive.
The all-wheel drive (AWD) option paired with the 72.6 kWh battery produces a combined power output of 225 kWh and 605 Nm of torque and has a 0-62mph acceleration time of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 115mph.
With two-wheel drive and the 72.6 kWh battery, the IONIQ 5’s WLTP driving range on a single charge will be almost 300 miles.
The IONIQ 5 can support both 400V and 800V charging infrastructures. The platform offers 800V charging capability as standard, along with 400V charging, without the need for additional components or adapters. The multi-charging system is a world-first patented technology that operates the motor and inverter to boost 400V to 800V for stable charging compatibility.
With a 350kW charger, the IONIQ 5 can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 18 minutes, meaning that only a five minute charge is needed to gain 62 miles of range.
The IONIQ 5 also provides an innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, which allows customers to charge any electric devices, such as electric bicycles, scooters or camping equipment, serving as a charger on wheels.
The V2L function can supply up to 3.6 kW of power. The V2L port is located under the second-row seats, with another V2L port located at the charging port on the vehicle exterior. Using a converter, customers can charge high-power electric equipment. The outside port provides power even when the vehicle is turned off.
Inside, there’s a ‘Universal Island’, a moveable centre console that can slide back as much as 140mm, which allows more freedom of movement inside the vehicle.
The IONIQ 5 features an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR HUD), turning the windscreen into a display screen.
Many of the interior components use eco-friendly, sustainably sourced materials.
The IONIQ 5 will be available in the UK by mid-2021.
