More battery electric vehicles were registered in June 2021 than diesel vehicles (19,842 BEVs – representing a 10.7% market share – compared to 15,027 diesels) according to the latest new car registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
BEV registrations increased by 122.9% compared to June 2020. There were also more BEV registrations in June than plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) (12,139). The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling car.
The data shows that plug-in vehicles continued to increase market share. Combined, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) accounted for 17.2% of new vehicles hitting the road (31,981 units).
