The Subaru SOLTERRA global battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be the cornerstone of Subaru’s future BEVs.
Subaru has jointly developed the SOLTERRA’s e-Subaru Global Platform with Toyota (there’s a close resemblance to the Lexus UX 300e).
High capacity battery packs are placed under the floor and are part of the structure, giving a low centre of gravity and high body strength and rigidity.
The front and rear wheels are driven with separate 80kW motors, and the SOLTERRA features Subaru’s the X-MODE AWD control system along with a new Grip Control function. XMODE with its different drive modes can also be selected to suit the conditions with settings for snow/mud; deep snow and mud (below 13mph); and Grip Control for tougher off-road driving (below 6mph).
It’s expected that the Subaru SOLTERRA will offer a similar electric driving range as the Toyota bZ4X, ie. around 280 miles from its 71.4kWh lithium-ion battery. The all-wheel drive Toyota bZ4X has maximum power of 214bhp with 336Nm of torque; top speed is 100mph, while acceleration to 62mph is 7.7 seconds.
The launch of the SOLTERRA will start by the middle of 2022 in markets including Japan, the United States, Canada, Europe and China.
