The DS 3 CROSSBACK has become the DS 3, and the 100 per cent electric DS 3 E-TENSE model has gained a longer driving range – now 250 miles (WLTP combined).
This is primarily due to a new, slightly larger battery – 54 kWh (50.8 kWh usable), which has thermal control through liquid circulation and a heat pump that enables rapid charging, better range and increased lifespan. With improved energy density, the battery is very compact and distributed beneath the front and rear seats and centre tunnel.
The increased range is also helped by the efficiency of a new electric motor with 115 kW (155 hp) of power and 260 Nm of torque, its ability to recover energy, ancilliary equipment such as the heat pump, thermal pre-conditioning and aerodynamic optimisation at the front and wheels as well as lowering ground clearance by 10mm on models with tall and narrow 17 and 18-inch wheels. The DS 3 gains flush fitting door handles to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.
The DS 3 E-TENSE can rapid charge at 100 kW DC, charging from zero to 80 per cent in 25 minutes. It can also charge at up to 11 kW AC, charging from zero to 100 per cent in 5 hours.
The DS 3 gets a new infotainment system available via a large 10.3-inch high definition central screen with a redesigned surround. The central screen shows 360 degree vision from new high resolution digital cameras. Connected navigation and intelligent voice recognition are offered by DS IRIS SYSTEM.
The driving position of the new DS 3 has changed with the adoption of a new steering wheel and regrouping controls for driver aids and infotainment buttons.
LED headlamps improve lighting performance while energy consumption is reduced, with DS MATRIX LED VISION available as an option – this produces a light beam that adapts automatically to its setting, which enables continuous driving in main beam mode without dazzling other road users.
The new DS 3 is available with electric, petrol and diesel drivetrains and a new OPERA specification is now the most exclusive trim level.
Orders for the new DS 3 will open during October 2022, with the first cars set to arrive in the UK from January 2023.
