Hyundai KONA Electric 2023

All-new Hyundai Kona Electric coming in 2023

The Hyundai Kona Electric has been one of Green Car Guide’s favourite EVs since it went on sale in the UK in 2018, when the practical family EV offered the potential of a real-world driving range of 300 miles at a price that was closer to £30,000 than £40,000.

Since then a multitude of other EVs have appeared, many with more dramatic styling than the Kona. Although the Kona received a facelift in 2021 this didn’t catapult the Kona into the realms of being ultra-desirable from a styling point of view, so Hyundai is giving the 2030 Kona a much bolder look.

The new Kona Electric will also be bigger – 150mm longer, resulting in a total length of 4,355mm, as well as gaining a 60mm longer wheelbase, and being 25mm wider.

One of the biggest visual changes is the simpler front end, with a ‘Seamless Horizon Lamp’ – and there’s also a wide light unit spanning the entire width of the car at the rear.

However another visual change is gaining larger wheels – 19-inch rather than the 17-inch wheels on the current Kona Electric – which is a welcome addition.

There’s also a new interior – which is larger, with 12.3-inch dual displays, and the gear selector is moving from the centre console to behind the steering wheel, which will free up more space between the front seats.

Hyundai says that it started with the design of the 2023 Kona Electric before designing the petrol and hybrid models, which is a departure from the conventional approach.
