The Renault Megane E-Tech 100% electric is now available with a heat pump. This is interesting, because we reviewed the Megane E-Tech 100% electric in November and we found that its real-world driving range was considerably less than it should have been – 170 miles rather than the WLTP official combined driving range of 280 miles. So we’re hoping that the new heat pump should help to improve the range, although we do wonder why Renault didn’t include this feature on the car when it was launched, which was only a few months ago.
Renault says that the heat pump can improve the electric driving range by up to 9% when the outside temperature falls below 10 degrees. The company also claims that this is around double the efficiency of heat pumps on other EVs.
The Megane’s heat pump has a system of pipes to take heat from the battery and electric motor, and this heat is used to warm the cabin, so saving on cabin heating and battery depletion, therefore improving driving range. Renault says that this occurs when the battery and electric motor are under heavy load, such as during rapid recharging or when driving on motorways.
The heat pump is available on the new top of the range ‘Iconic’ trim, which also features the equipment of the limited version Launch Edition, and a wider choice of colours. The body colour options range across solid, metallic, or special metallic paints, and are comprised of glacier white, diamond black, shadow grey, ceramic grey and midnight blue. Customers can also choose from two-tone paint options, with diamond black or shadow grey on the roof.
Other equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a smart rear-view mirror, and a surround view 3D camera system. The Megane E-Tech 100% electric also features a 12.3-inch dashboard display, a 9-inch multimedia display, and Android Automotive OS with integrated Google services from the Techno trim upwards.
Renault Megane E-Tech 100% electric trim levels are Equilibre, Techno and the new Iconic specification, with prices from £36,995.
