Electric Caterham Project V

Caterham has revealed Project V, an all-electric coupé concept car.

The Caterham brand stands for lightness, agility and fun; however achieving lightness with a heavy battery was always going to be a challenge. But Caterham says that Project V weighs just 1,190kg, which is lighter than virtually any other electric car (with the exception of the Dacia Spring, which isn’t currently on sale in the UK).

An innovative carbon fibre and aluminium composite chassis is a key reason for the 1,190kg kerb weight, despite the 55 kWh lithium-ion battery – which is expected to deliver a combined WLTP range of 249 miles. Caterham says that the battery can be recharged from 20%-80% in just 15 minutes using a 150 kW DC rapid charger.

In terms of performance, the Caterham Project V has a 200 kW (272 PS) single motor mounted in the rear axle which will deliver a 0-62 mph time in less than 4.5 seconds and an estimated top speed of 143 mph.

The interior features a 2+1 seating layout – although 2+2 is optional – and a simple, driver-focused infotainment system with smartphone mirroring, with Normal, Sport and Sprint driving modes that adjust acceleration and steering.

Caterham says that Project V could be brought to market towards the end of 2025 or early 2026 with a target price starting from less than £80,000. The Caterham Seven will remain on sale.
