Alpine A290

Alpine A290 electric hot hatch

The Alpine A290 electric ‘urban sports car’ will be available in GT, GT Premium, GT Performance and top-of-the-range GTS specifications.

The GT and GT Premium models feature a 180 bhp electric motor, with GT Performance and GTS variants having a 220 bhp motor.

The Alpine A290 comes as standard with a 52 kWh battery, giving a WLTP range of up to around 235 miles. A heat pump is included to optimise cabin temperature and preserve range.

The A290 can rapid charge at up to 100 kW DC, enabling a 15% to 80% charge in 30 minutes, equivalent to recovering up to 93 miles in 15 minutes.

At an AC charging point, the on-board 11 kW charger enables the vehicle to be charged from 50% to 80% in 1 hour 20 minutes. This charger incorporates a bi-directional function that lets you use V2L (vehicle-to-load) to connect a device via the charging socket. It is also V2G (vehicle-to-grid) compatible, so you can save money on charging at home.

The A290 measures just 3.99 metres long, it has 5 doors, 5 seats and a 326-litre boot. Weighing just 1,479 kg, the A290 has a 0-62 mph time of 6.4 seconds. A button on the steering wheel activates the four different Alpine driving modes: Save, Normal, Sport and Personal.

A sound feedback system accompanies driving and provides direct information on the stress on the powertrain, helping to enhance sensations and improve the driving experience.

The three-spoke sports steering wheel features buttons including an RCH (Recharge) rotary knob on the left to set the regeneration level, driving modes on the right, and the red OV (Overtake) button above. The A290 also features a launch control function. Best of all, there are physical air conditioning controls.

The A290’s exterior styling features four headlamps, as on all Alpine models, and they feature X-shaped motifs reminiscent of rally cars.

Aerodynamics have shaped features such as the air intake in the bumper to create an efficient air flow, as well as the wide side skirts, the diffuser, the vanes and the shape of the rear lights.

The standard 19-inch alloy wheels come in two exclusive designs. The Iconic wheel design was created to reference the wheels on the Alpine A310, and the Snowflake wheels recall the origins of the Alpine name.

Michelin and Alpine have collaborated on two years of research and testing to develop three specific 19-inch tyres: two summer tyres and one winter tyre.

Four body colours are available, including a new Alpine Vision Blue, as well as Deep Black, Nival White and Matte Tornado Grey. A limited Première Edition of 1,955 will be available at launch in four versions: Première Édition, Beta, La Bleue, La Grise.

The A290 will be joined by an electric GT C-Crossover and the new electric A110.
