Green Car Guide has joined forces with the Fully Charged Show, Octopus Electric Vehicles and more than 100 leading industry partners as part of Electric Vehicles UK (EVUK) to expand the reach of communication and education about EVs for consumers.
The Electric Vehicles UK website, which launched on 12 December, is a collaborative initiative to better educate consumers looking to switch to electric cars.
This comes at a time when there is much discussion about the need to increase sales of EVs, especially to private motorists, so manufacturers can meet the ZEV mandate targets. The target for 2025 is for 28% of a manufacturer’s car sales to be zero emission.
Ongoing examples of misinformation in the media about electric vehicles have continued over the last year, even though satisfaction among EV drivers remains high, with research from Octopus showing that 96% of EV owners plan to buy another electric car. Almost half of non-EV drivers would like their next car to be electric, and they’re looking for trusted information and experts to help them make the switch. The new Electric Vehicles UK website is designed to provide a ‘single point of truth’, amplifying existing online information and signposting drivers to helpful content such as EV reviews, including from Green Car Guide.
Paul Clarke, founder and editor of Green Car Guide, says: “It’s time to take action to combat stories in the media about EVs that don’t represent the majority view, and to communicate the overall positive experiences of people who drive electric vehicles. With over 18 years of information about EVs on Green Car Guide, as well as providing content to partners in the industry, we’re pleased to be expanding the reach of our communication with Electric Vehicles UK.”
In contrast to stories in the media about individual negative views around EVs and charging, the experience of most EV drivers is that they find EVs are better to drive than petrol and diesel cars, as well as being cheaper to run. The misinformation in the media takes the focus away from the key benefits of EVs: their zero tailpipe emissions mean that they don’t have a negative impact on local air quality or climate change.
Dan Caesar, Launch CEO of Electric Vehicles UK: “The rise of online misinformation and inconsistent government messaging over recent years has resulted in some drivers hesitating to make the switch to EVs. Electric Vehicles UK aims to provide information to educate drivers, to help them make a well-informed transition to vehicles with zero tailpipe emissions. To make the choices that suit their needs.”
Green Car Guide, a pioneer in the area of green and electric cars, has been providing expert communication about EVs since 2006, having reviewed every mainstream electric car ever on sale in the UK, with a photo library of over 20,000 EV images, and as a founding partner, will be actively contributing to Electric Vehicles UK.
