The Renault 4 E-Tech electric Plein Sud, with a full-length electric opening canvas roof, is now on sale in the UK from £27,445 OTR after the Electric Car Grant – making it the only B-SUV EV that offers a folding roof.
The Plein Sud is a nod to the original Renault 4’s simple fabric roof, but brought up to date with a one-touch electric mechanism that can also be opened by voice command via Renault’s Reno digital assistant. The aperture measures 80cm by 92cm, gathers cleanly into three folds, and can be stopped at intermediate positions. Renault says the multi-layer construction means there’s no penalty in acoustic refinement or weight, and headroom is barely affected versus the fixed-roof car.
Importantly for a practical small SUV, boot space is unchanged at up to 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded. The roof rails and shark-fin antenna have been removed to maximise the opening – otherwise the specification mirrors the standard car.
Powertrain is unchanged: a 52kWh battery and 150hp electric motor delivering up to 242 miles WLTP, with rapid charging at up to 100kW DC for a 15–80% top-up in around 30 minutes. AC charging is supported at up to 11kW. One-pedal driving is standard.
The introduction of the Plein Sud also brings the GSR2.3 safety standard across the Renault 4 range, with up to 28 advanced driver assistance systems including a new driver-fatigue camera, predictive eco-driving assistant and emergency stop assist.
The Plein Sud version qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, joining the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric in attracting the maximum ECG. Two trims are offered: techno+ at £27,445 OTR and iconic+ at £29,445 OTR, both priced £1,500 above the equivalent fixed-roof model. Order books opened on 8 May for R Pass customers, with public ordering from 14 May and first deliveries expected from Q3 2026.
