The Best Car Cleaning Products for Electric Vehicle Photography

Green Car Guide’s Editor Paul Clarke has personally reviewed every electric car ever on sale in the UK – and has also photographed them all. Photography is shot while testing cars in appropriate locations, typically remote rural areas for cars such as SUVs (ie. most new cars).

To get the best photography to excite people to make the shift to EVs we need to ensure our cars are clean – but how do we do that while on an adventure in the middle of nowhere? The answer is to take our own car cleaning kit wherever we go. Over 19 years we’ve tried many car cleaning brands but now we only use Autoglym products.

Why is this? The main product that we use on location is car cleaning shampoo. Most brands that we’ve tried have very watery car shampoo which generally doesn’t work very well. However Autoglym’s Ceramic Wash & Protect, a triple-action ceramic shampoo, is much more effective, and creates the best shine of any products that we’ve tested.

Tyres also need to look presentable on photographs. Again, over the years we’ve tried products for tyres from different brands, most of which seem to have little result, so we now exclusively use Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing. Tyres often appear to be very dull, but Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing creates a black sheen which gives our EVs a perfect finishing touch.

A new product from Autoglym is the Polar Foam Sprayer. Taking a pressure washer on location isn’t really an option, so the Polar Foam Sprayer is ideal because it’s designed to do the job of a pressure washer without any electricity being needed, and it requires much less water. The Polar Foam Sprayer, with a 1.9-litre integrated bottle, is pressurised using the built-in hand pump. It can deliver a thick blanket of foam to ensure an effective clean. Snow foam allows cleaning solutions to cling more effectively to the surface of the vehicle, with the aim of removing dirt more easily.

The Polar Foam Sprayer can be used with three Autoglym products: Polar Blast, Polar Wash and Polar Seal.

The Autoglym Polar Blast pre-wash high-cling foam loosens dirt and heavy soiling without requiring any physical contact.

Autoglym Polar Wash high-foaming shampoo can then be used with a sponge or wash mitt to shift any remaining surface grime without removing any previously applied waxes or sealants.

Autoglym Polar Seal delivers a protective, hydrophobic coating that repels water and dirt to deliver extra protection and a high-gloss finish.

The Autoglym Polar Foam Sprayer is priced at £29.99.

Founded in 1965 and celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, Autoglym is the UK’s largest car care brand. For more information visit www.autoglym.com
