Hyundai i10 1.0 Blue

Hyundais are becoming an increasingly common sight on British roads, helped no end by the fact that Hyundai sold more cars through the scrappage scheme than any other manufacturer. The i10 is their latest attempt to attract customers away from more established brands, so should you be tempted?

Hyundai has traditionally been best known for cut price offerings but they are trying to reposition themselves as a more serious contender and one element of this strategy is a concerted focus on developing low CO2 models. The i10 Blue is one of the first models to hit the market and it gives the brand its first sub-100 g/km contender.

Hyundai has done a brilliant job at integrating market-leading technology without stretching the budget too far. As a result the i10 Blue gets stop/start and low rolling resistance tyres supporting a 3-cylinder 1-litre engine. Performance is good for the class too, so there is no sense of corners having been cut to get the fuel economy.

The i10 is a decent looking city car although it can look a bit slab-sided from some angles. Basic specifications are good but Hyundai has to save money somewhere and it is the interior plastics that have suffered. The good news is that whilst the materials might be a bit low rent in places, build quality is top notch as evidenced by Hyundai's excellent five year warranty.

The i10 might still be a cheap car but it isn't nasty. The steering provides better feel than many mainstream rivals and the low kerb weight helps to make it agile. With decent looks, a modern engine and stop/start there is already much to recommend. The addition of a bargain price, reassuring build quality and that five-year warranty make it a great buy.
