ORA is the electric-car brand of Great Wall Motor (GWM), one of China’s largest privately-owned car manufacturers. The brand’s lead UK product, originally launched as the “Funky Cat”, was renamed the ORA 03 in 2024 to align with global naming. It is a compact retro-styled hatchback that competes with the Mini Cooper Electric, MG4 and Renault 5. ORA sits within GWM’s wider UK presence, which also includes the WEY plug-in hybrid SUV brand and GWM-badged pick-ups. Great Wall Motor has a long-standing partnership with BMW through the Spotlight Automotive joint venture, which builds the new Mini Cooper Electric and Aceman in China. Future ORA models for the UK are expected to expand the line-up beyond the single hatchback currently on sale.
