Volvo’s electric range has been comprehensively renamed and expanded. The XC40 Recharge is now the EX40, the C40 Recharge is the EC40, and they are joined by the new EX30 small SUV – one of the cheapest ‘premium’ EVs on UK sale – the seven-seat EX90 flagship and the ES90 saloon. The EM90 luxury MPV is sold in selected markets but not the UK. Volvo continues to offer plug-in hybrid versions of the XC60 and XC90 for buyers not ready to switch to full electric. The brand, owned by China’s Geely group, walked back its earlier pledge to be all-electric by 2030 and now positions itself as offering both EV and PHEV options into the next decade.
