Terms and Conditions of Use

Green Car Guide — Effective 29 May 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of the website greencarguide.co.uk and any subdomains, mobile or tablet experiences, RSS feeds, content feeds, APIs and other digital services we operate (together, the “site”).

The site is operated by Green Car Guide Ltd (“Green Car Guide”, “we”, “us” and “our”), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 05695573) with its registered office at 33 Harrison Road, Halifax, HX1 2AF, UK. You can contact us by email at editor@greencarguide.co.uk.

By accessing or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

These terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy and our Cookie Notice, both of which are available on the site.

2. Our content

All editorial content on the site — including articles, reviews, news, buyer’s guide entries, images, photography, video, ratings, data fields, infographics, layout, design and code — is owned by Green Car Guide or its contributors and licensors, and is protected by copyright, database rights, trade marks and other intellectual property rights under the laws of the United Kingdom and other countries.

Subject to your compliance with these terms, you may:

  • view, browse and read the content on the site for your own personal, non-commercial use;
  • print or save a reasonable number of pages of the content for your own personal reference;
  • share a link to a page on the site with others (for example, by email or via social media);
  • quote brief extracts from the content for the purposes of criticism, review or news reporting, where doing so amounts to fair dealing under section 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, provided that the extract is short, accurate, used in context, and accompanied by a clear credit to Green Car Guide and a link to the original article.

3. What you may not do with our content

Except as expressly permitted in clause 2, you may not, without our prior written consent:

  • reproduce, republish, transmit, distribute or make available to the public any of the content (in whole or in substantial part), whether in its original form or as a paraphrase, derivative work or AI-generated reformulation;
  • copy, store or use the content for any commercial purpose;
  • use the content to populate any third-party website, application, feed, comparison engine, newsletter, social-media channel or other product or service;
  • frame, mirror or embed the site or any part of it within another website or application in a way that obscures or misrepresents its origin;
  • remove, obscure or alter any copyright notice, byline, credit, watermark or trademark applied to the content;
  • scrape, crawl, harvest, spider, index or otherwise systematically extract content from the site, or attempt to do so, except (a) by means of generally-available search engines complying with our robots.txt and similar machine-readable instructions, and only to the extent permitted by those instructions, or (b) under a separate written licence with us;
  • use the content (or any portion of it) to train, fine-tune, evaluate, retrieve-against, or otherwise develop any artificial intelligence model, large language model, generative AI system or machine-learning system, whether commercial or non-commercial, except with our prior written consent. The absence of an explicit machine-readable opt-out signal (e.g. in robots.txt, ai.txt, meta tags or HTTP headers) shall not be taken as consent;
  • circumvent, disable or interfere with any security, access-control or technical-protection measure on the site;
  • use the site or its content in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, obscene, harassing, or in breach of the rights of any third party.

We reserve all rights not expressly granted in these terms.

4. Licensing enquiries

If you would like to use our content beyond what is permitted in clause 2 — for example, to syndicate reviews, license images, embed our reviews into a leasing or comparison platform, or train an AI system on our content — please contact us at editor@greencarguide.co.uk to discuss a commercial licence.

5. Links from the site, advertising and affiliate links

The site contains links to third-party websites and resources, including links to advertisers and to affiliate partners (for example, leasing brokers, salary-sacrifice operators, home-charging providers, battery-health services, charging-network operators and insurance comparison services). Where a link is an affiliate link, we may receive a commission or other payment if you click through and complete a purchase or other action on the partner’s site.

We are not responsible for the content, products or services of any third-party site, and your dealings with those third parties are on their own terms and at your own risk. Following an affiliate link does not increase the price you pay.

6. Editorial independence and sponsorship

Green Car Guide is an independent publication. Editorial content reflects the honest opinion of its authors. We may from time to time publish sponsored content, advertorial, partner content or content produced in collaboration with a third party. Where this is the case, we will identify it as such.

Green Car Guide is published by Green Car Guide Ltd. Its directors and senior staff hold various interests in the automotive and clean-mobility sectors — including Paul Clarke’s separate consultancy Automotive Comms, and direct investments by Tim Rault-Smith in companies that may advertise on, partner with, or be reviewed by Green Car Guide. These connections are managed through a clear separation between editorial and commercial functions, and are disclosed openly. They do not influence editorial judgments on individual reviews.

7. Accuracy of content

We make reasonable efforts to ensure that the content on the site is accurate at the time of publication. However, the automotive market changes quickly: prices, specifications, range figures, charging speeds, taxation, grant availability and product details may change without notice. The content on the site is provided for general information only and should not be relied on as a substitute for professional advice from a manufacturer, dealer, accountant or other qualified adviser before you make a purchasing decision.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, representations and conditions in relation to the site and its content, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.

8. Availability and changes to the site

We do not guarantee that the site will be available at all times, free from errors, or free from viruses or other harmful code. We may at any time, and without notice, change, suspend, withdraw, restrict access to, or discontinue any part of the site.

9. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable to you, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, for any loss of profit, loss of business, loss of revenue, loss of anticipated savings, loss of goodwill, or any indirect, consequential, special or punitive loss, in each case arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the site or any reliance on its content.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or under section 2(3) of the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

If you are using the site as a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

10. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

  • use the site in any way that breaches any applicable law or regulation;
  • transmit any material to or via the site that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, harassing, infringing of any third-party right, or that contains any virus, worm, trojan or other malicious code;
  • interfere with, disable, overload or impair the site, its servers or any connected network, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or any underlying systems or accounts;
  • use any robot, spider or other automated means to access the site except as permitted by clause 3.

We reserve the right to block, restrict, or take other technical or legal action against any user, IP address, network or automated agent that breaches this clause.

11. Privacy

Our handling of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is available on the site.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of the page. Continuing to use the site after a change means that you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or your use of the site, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, save that, if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the United Kingdom where you reside.
