Following success in 2020 for the Porsche Taycan (World Luxury Car and World Performance Car) and the Kia Soul EV (World Urban Car), electric cars are yet again represented amongst the shortlist for the 2021 Awards.
In the Urban Car category the Honda-e is up against 5 competitors and looks well placed to take the top spot. In the Luxury Car category the Tesla Model Y, Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40 Recharge are joined by the Hydrogen Fuel Cell powered Toyota Mirai to jointly make up half of the 8 strong entry list.
The ultimate prize of World Car of the Year is open to 24 models with the Honda-e, Mazda MX-30 and Volkswagen ID.4 making up the EV entries.
A panel of 93 judges from 29 different countries will choose the winners, making the awards the toughest in the industry. The previous success of EV’s and the strong representation for 2021 demonstrates the global reach of modern electric cars.
The 2021 Awards winners will be announced at the New York International Auto Show in March 2021.
