Are Electric Cars more fuel efficient than combustion engine cars?

Most people would imagine that electric cars are more efficient than combustion engine cars, but what is the actual difference between the two?

You can still compare fuel economy thanks to MPGe; to examine this, we’ll use some some Volkswagen models as examples.

When you buy a VW model you do so in the knowledge that you are going to benefit from years of developments that give the company a competitive edge when it comes to superior engineering, and innovative ideas.

If you search for new Volkswagen cars in Austin TX, for instance, you will see that ethos and set of standards come to fruition with a range of stunning models to choose from. You will also discover that VW is pushing the engineering and technological boundaries to produce vehicles that are renowned for delivering excellent fuel efficiency.

With that in mind, if you want to know which Volkswagen is the most fuel-efficient in their current range, here’s a look at the top models that fit the bill.

How does 500 miles on a single tank of gas sound to you?

With prices at the pump causing a certain amount of economic pain right now, it makes sense to sniff out a VW model that stretches your gas dollars as far as possible.

If you want to own arguably the most fuel-efficient VW around right now, the Jetta is the model that should get your attention. This compact sedan can give you 40 MPG highway driving, and manages an impressive combined 33 MPG when taking the average 29 MPG it manages for city driving.

That all adds up to about 500 miles on a single tank of gas.

The Taos also offers impressive mileage numbers

This subcompact SUV packs a punch, thanks to its 1.5 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, but still manages excellent gas mileage for a small family SUV.

You can get the Taos as an All-Wheel Drive version, or Front-Wheel Drive. Either way, you are looking at MPG numbers that average 36 on the highway, and 28 around town, which is pretty good for such a useful SUV.

Golf GTI: performance and efficiency

The VW Golf GTI can be described as an iconic “hot hatch”. When you see this description you know you will be driving something that is sporty and quick. However, you also get the added bonus of surprisingly good fuel economy.

Open the GTI up on the highway and you can still manage close to 33 MPG, so you can have your cake and eat it, by having some driving fun without hurting your wallet.

The Passat is still worth a look

Although the Passat has been discontinued as a result of the continued rise in popularity of SUVs, if you can get a low-mileage nearly-new version, this efficient mid-size sedan still warrants your attention.

It’s roomy, a great drive, and delivers excellent fuel economy numbers, so it’s a shame they’re not making any more.

Redefining fuel economy with the ID.4

The ID.4 might be an electric vehicle, but you can still compare fuel economy thanks to MPGe. What this calculation means is Miles Per Gallon of Gasoline equivalent. In other words, there is a method of working out how far a car like the ID.4 can travel for the same amount of energy found in a gallon of gas.

Naturally enough, a model like the ID.4 wins the fuel economy argument hands down. You get an average of 115 MPGe with city driving conditions, and 98 MPGe on the highway.

All of these great VW models offer you a compelling combination of engineering excellence, great design, and enviable fuel economy figures. Check out the range on offer at your VW dealer.
