PEUGEOT E-208 GTi

PEUGEOT GTi goes electric with the E-208 GTi

The PEUGEOT E-208 GTi has been revealed, with 280 hp and a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds.

PEUGEOT introduced the 205 GTi over 40 years ago, with the 1.6L version in 1984 and then the 1.9L model in 1986. The new PEUGEOT E-208 GTi is the first all-electric GTi. Like all GTi models for 40 years, the E-208 GTi is distinguished by its stance on the road, thanks to a body lowered by 30 mm and tracks widened by 56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear.

The large 18-inch wheels feature a perforated structure, helping to optimise brake cooling, inspired by the ‘Speedline’ wheels of the 205 GTi 1.9, the wheel arches have been widened to accommodate the increased tracks, and a front spoiler has been added.

The E-208 GTi has an exclusive bright red body colour, with bright red carpets, floor mats and seat belts. The compact steering wheel, features perforated red leather combined with Alcantara and a central emblem that also turns red.

The E-208 GTi is the first all-electric car designed by PEUGEOT Sport, with the team optimising thermal management and energy recovery as well as working extensively on the chassis and braking of the E-208 GTi.

Features include a limited-slip differential integrated into the gear reducer that optimises handling while cornering, providing agility, efficiency, and stability. The ESP system of the E-208 GTi offers a specific Sport mode that suspends driver assistance systems to maximise sensations, such as on the track. The sensitivity of the E-208 GTi’s steering has been specially calibrated to offer a direct response suited to dynamic driving. Michelin, a long-time partner of PEUGEOT, provided high-performance tyres for the E-208 GTi, 215/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2.

The PEUGEOT E-208 GTi is equipped with an electric motor that develops 280hp and offers torque of 345 Nm, delivering acceleration from 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds, with a limited top speed of 112 mph. It offers a power-to-weight ratio of 175 hp per tonne – 33 hp more per tonne than the original 205 GTi 1.9.

The electric battery, with a gross capacity of 54 kWh, benefits from optimised management that protects it in performance driving and adds a specific cooling system adapted for high-performance use. The battery offers a range of 217 miles (WLTP mixed cycle) and can be charged from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes from a 100 kW DC rapid charger. The E-208 GTi offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which allows an electrical device to be powered via the car’s high-voltage battery by means of an adapter available as an accessory.
