You might not have heard of Genesis before but it has been around as a stand alone company since 2015 and in the UK since 2021. In simple terms Genesis is part of the Hyundai group and is the premium offering, so it is the equivalent of Lexus for Toyota.
The GV60 is a premium crossover/fastback which uses the same platform as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 6 and Kia EV6. This is very good news as it is probably the best dedicated electric platform on the market. Thanks to an 800 volt architecture it delivers charging rates of up to 233 kW enabling seriously rapid recharge times at Ultra Rapid chargers. In the case of the GV60 this means a 10% – 80% charge can take as little as 18 minutes. Of course it is also compatible with 50 kW rapid chargers too so there is no compromise, you are just always guaranteed to fastest charge available.
Interestingly the Genesis is slightly shorter than an IONIQ 5 with a compact length of just over 4.5 metres and a roof height of 1.58 metres, and it prioritises style over function. However it can still swallow a useful 432 litres in the boot and there is a small front boot as well. We think the exterior looks good, and any marginal loss of practicality is probably worth it.
Once inside the GV60 plays its ace card. The interior is both brilliantly laid out with physical controls for ventilation, and key functions, and looks and feels great. There are lots of wow moments, and the material quality is top draw. The fact that this is combined with lots of practical storage and an airy feel makes this one of the best interiors on the market.
The good news continues once you get on the move. Refinement is first class, the ride quality is good, and when you find some corners you are rewarded with accurate steering and an agile rear-wheel drive chassis. The GV60 delivers a great combination of mile-munching ability and fun that makes it stand out. Only the BMW i4 manages the same trick, putting the Genesis in an elite club.
So the GV60 is great to drive, great to sit in, charges quickly, looks good, has a sensible range and a very well thought out dashboard. Add to that a standard 5 year warranty and 5 year servicing and it is easy to see why we rate the GV60 so highly.

Please note that CO2 emissions quoted for electric cars are not directly comparable to diesel and petrol cars. This is because CO2 emissions quoted are calculated by Green Car Guide and include the emissions created at the power station turning fuel (e.g. gas etc) into electricity and in transmitting and distributing the electricity to an end user. They do not include the actual production of the fuel (e.g. gas extraction and refinery emissions). Petrol and diesel emissions are supplied by car manufacturers and are based solely on the fuel burnt in the engine (tailpipe emissions) and do not include the production of the fuel or distribution to a fuel station. In practice this means that electric car emissions are over-estimated relative to petrol and diesel. For instance if an electric car, a petrol car, and a diesel car are all reported to emit 100 g/km CO2, the electric car actually has lower emissions.
